- This Universal Refiner has undergone extensive mechanical work and key system upgrades. The major components have been rebuilt, replaced, or modernized to eliminate the common weak points of older Universal machines. Cutter System • Updated cutter (not the original disc) • Universal quoted $32,000 to rebuild the original disc — owner instead built a stronger, serviceable setup • Uses feller-buncher Gator teeth from Global Tool ($21 each vs. $65 from Universal) • Bolt-on tooth design replaces the Universal wedge system • Comes with the original cutter disc and several boxes of spare teeth Main Shaft & Bearings • Pressed bearings on the main shaft are in good condition and still take grease • Arbor bearings have been recently replaced Engine • Cummins N14 — runs strong and operates as it should Hydraulic System • Includes a spare main hydraulic pump • Approximately $5,000 in new hydraulic hoses needed to finish the machine Tub & Drive System • Brand-new tub installed • New ring around the tub (old one was burnt) • Updated trunnion bearings built to the R-Mag-style design • New hydraulic drive motors for the tub • New discharge conveyor Chassis & Suspension • Entire rear suspension updated • Converted from Budd wheels to stud-pilot wheels for improved durability Extras Included • Original cutter disc • Four boxes of spare teeth • Spare trunnion wheels and bearings • Brand-new 4x6 chipper grates — never used
